Fenghuang is the creature of the same name from Chinese mythology and a minor character in DreamWorks' Abominable franchise. She is one of the magical creatures featured in the animated series, Abominable and the Invisible City.
In "Everest Returns", Fenghuang is introduced to Yi and Everest. Afterwards, she is seen hiding in the oven. She eventually finds herself a new best with Yi and Everest's help.

Fenghuang are legendary birds that appear in various traditions across the Sinosphere. They are regarded as the sovereigns of all avian species, with the male and female originally referred to as feng and huang, respectively. However, the distinction between genders is now largely overlooked, and fenghuang are predominantly viewed as a feminine symbol, often associated with the traditionally masculine Chinese dragon. These birds are recognized by similar names in several other languages, such as hō-ō in Japanese, phượng hoàng or phụng hoàng in Vietnamese, and bonghwang in Korean. In Western contexts, they are frequently referred to as Chinese phoenixes, although the mythological parallels with the Western phoenix are largely superficial.
The phoenix is a mythical immortal bird known for its ability to regenerate or be reborn in cycles. This creature has its roots in Greek mythology and has counterparts in various cultures, including Egyptian and Persian traditions. Often linked to the sun, the phoenix is said to gain new life by emerging from the ashes of its former self. According to some legends, it perishes in a blaze of fire, while others suggest that it merely dies and decomposes before its rebirth.
