The Fault Ripper is a large Boulder Class dragon that first appeared in the series Dragons: The Nine Realms.

Physical Appearance[]

The Fault Ripper looks like the concept of dragons from medieval European mythologies. It is a large gray dragon with four horns (two large horns with one little horn on each), blue-white blank eyes, large nostrils, huge wings with paler underparts, and very tough scales covering its body. The dragon features medium, pointed spines extending along its back down to the tail, which is encased in robust scales, resembling an axe or blade.

It possesses elongated, sharp claws and prominent upper teeth that extend beyond its mouth, resulting in a noticeable overbite.

Behavior and Personality[]

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Fire Power: The fault ripper can fire orange and purple flames out of its mouth. While it spins in a circle, it can emit those flames in a barrel shot similar to Toothless' battle tactic. It can melt the rock in its path while burrowing through the ground.
  • Strength and Combat: Fault Rippers possess remarkable strength and exceptionally resilient skin, enabling them to endure numerous assaults from various dragon species. Their power is such that it is insufficient to incapacitate them. They can easily knock Thunder and Tom aside with a mere swing of their tail and exhibit the capability to burrow underground, akin to a Whispering Death. The Fissure Fault Ripper managed to survive the descent and is now residing at the bottom of the Fissure, alongside the Dragon Club.
  • Tunneling: Due to being a burrowing dragon for most of its life, the Fault Ripper can tunnel through the Earth relatively quickly, first by heating its mouth with its orange and purple flames and using them to melt through the rocks, allowing it to tunnel. However, they are powerful enough to cause earthquakes.
  • Speed and agility: The Fault Ripper appears to be a swift moving species, especially when using its spinning-flame attack. One Fault Ripper was even able to keep up with Thunder and nearly caught him until the intervention of Plowhorn and Wu and Wei.
  • Enhanced Senses: Despite their poor eyesight, the dragon makes up for it with its Titan senses of hearing and smelling through his giant ear canals near its eyes, allowing them to hunt their prey more easily. It can find other dragons with its senses of smell, despite their best attempts to hide from him. After the encounter with a Fault Ripper in its lair, Jun, Tom, and their dragons hide from him. However, the Fault Ripper found them using his heightened senses.
  • Intelligence: The Fissure Fault Ripper had an excellent retention of memory, as it fearfully remembered its first encounter with the Dragon Club. However, the dragon is also easily trainable because the dragon understands Tom's commands and rallies all the dragons of the Crystal Realm against the Fire Dragons.

Weaknesses[]

  • Poor eyesight: The Fault Ripper, classified as an underground dragon, possesses limited vision and primarily relies on its acute sense of hearing for hunting purposes. Consequently, this dragon is nearly blind, unable to perceive objects even when they are near its snout.
  • Loud sounds: As a burrowing dragon, the Fault Ripper primarily relies on its hearing due to poor eyesight. Loud noises, such as Featherhide's sonic scream, can cause the Fault Ripper pain or disorientation, as well as disrupt its ability to fly.
