Elphaba Thropp (more infamously known as the Wicked Witch of the West and simply called the Witch or Wicked Witch ) is the main protagonist/heroine of the novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West and the Broadway musical adaptation Wicked . She is a young woman who is judged by the color of her green skin.
She is based on the Wicked Witch of the West from the 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum and Margaret Hamilton’s portrayal of the character in the 1939 film adaptation of The Wizard of Oz .
