Edmontosaurus (meaning "reptile from Edmonton") is an extinct genus of hadrosaurid dinosaur that lived in North America during the Late Cretaceous period depicted in various forms of media over the years.

Description[]

The Edmontosaurus can reach lengths of up to 13 meters (43 ft) and heights of 4 meters (13 ft) at the hips. The Edmontosaurus is herbivorous, utilizing its duck-like bill to consume plants and vegetation. It had the ability to walk on either two legs or all fours, and it was known to be a swift runner. They have a fleshy crest along its neck and back, which transitioned into a series of spikes along its tail. It was covered in small, pebble-like scales. It inhabited swampy forests and riverbanks in what is now North America. It is is likely that the Edmontosaurus lived in large herds for protection.

The primary predator of the Edmontosaurus was the Tyrannosaurus rex.

Fossils of the Edmontosaurus have been discovered in Wyoming, Colorado, Montana, South Dakota, Alberta, and Saskatchewan.

The Edmontosaurus is named after the Edmonton rock formation located in Alberta, Canada.

It was recently discovered in 2025 that the Edmontosaurus toes were capped with wedge-shaped. It lived alongside Tyrannosaurus, Triceratops, Ankylosaurus, and Pachycephalosaurus. One individual was found in North Dakota and named it Dakota.
