Background[]
Before the series, Eddard was born to Richard Stark and an unnamed woman. He has three siblings; Brandon, Benjen and Lyanna. He and Robert Baratheon were raised alongside each other and fostered by Jon Arryn.
He later adopted his sister's and Rhaegar Targaryen's son, Jon Snow to hide him from Robert I Baratheon who wish to eradicate House Targaryen as revenge against Rhaegar allegedly killing Lyanna Stark, his beloved. He raised his nephew and led Jon to believing he was a child born of illegitimacy. It caused friction between himself and his wife, Catelyn, who was left unaware of Jon's true parentage as their nephew.
Eddard and his wife would eventually have four children; three sons, Robb,, Bran and Rickon, and two daughters, Sansa and Arya.
