Durin, also known as Durin the Deathless, is one of the supporting characters in The Silmarillion. Credited as tthe founder of the city of Khazad-dum and the first King of Durin's Folk, he was the eldest of the Seven Fathers of the Dwarves fashioned by the Vla Aule, who yearned for the Children of Ilúvatar's arrival and placed them to sleep until the Elves and Men arrived, placing him under Mount Gundabad in the Misty Mountains during the Years of the Trees. It was believed by the dwarves he was resurrected seven times.
Founding the House of Durin, his people became known as Durin's Folk, as Thorin and his other descendants were referred to as the "Sons of Durin."
