Draco (real first name unknown) is one of the two main protagonists of the 1996 film, Dragonheart.

Background[]

Draco is one of the nine dragons who were part of a fallen comment with Drago, the first dragon to re-appear in Britain several hundred years before the original film. He was born sometime during the the life of the young knight, Gareth. However, Draco is not his real name, as his true name is hard to pronounce in the human tongue. He adopted the name "Draco" after the constellation of the same name by Bowen. For the next several centuries, Draco took up residence in a cavern, where he kept a dragon egg he had fathered and once was friends with Queen Aislinn.

Dragonheart: A New Beginning []

Draco is mentioned several times throughout the film: he first appears in a flashback, where narration made by one of the films' main characters, Brother Mansel, mentions Draco being the last dragon to be slain by Sir Bowen. He reveals during the last year of his life, Bowen revisited Draco's cave, the same one that Einon was taken to be healed, where he found a dragon egg that was fathered by Draco and was soon to be hatched. Bowen took the egg to the Monastery his and Draco's old friend, Brother Gilbert had originated from

Over the next sixteen years, Drake, son of Draco, lived in the old dungeons for his Caretaker, Friar Peter, feared an ancient prophecy that a dragon's evil would conquer the world and that it would refer to Drake, the only dragon remaining.

Draco's story of how he saved Einon was also mentioned by Master Kwan to Drake and the film's protagonist, Geoff to explain what happened to the last of the remaining Dragons. In an indirect reference to Draco, Drake splits his heart in half to give to Geoff, he speaks the same words his father did when Draco shared half of his own heart to Einon at the beginning of the original film.

Dragonheart 4: Battle for the Heartfire[]

Draco appears in a mural with several other young dragons. He was raised by his guardian, Drago, and the human Gareth.

Trivia[]
