Derek Smithers is a major character in Amazon Prime's television adaptation of the Alex Rider book series. He is a technical analyst for MI6 and one of Alex Rider's allies.

Personality[]

Derek Smithers is an honorable agent of MI6 and one of the few agents (alongside tulip Jones) who cares about Alex's safety and wellbeing. Despite Blunt telling Smithers to stop assisting Alex Rider in his investigation of Damian Cray, Derek disobeyed these orders by telling Alex who Simon Mariatt was and assisting him and Kyra later. It truly does how loyal he is to his friends and allies.

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Computer sciences/skilled hacker: Like Kyra, Smithers is an immensely skilled computer specialist and hacker. His skills in computer sciences has been praised by his many callings including Alex Rider and Tulip Jones.
    • Skilled Hacker: Almost everyone in MI6 respects Smithers and entrust him with hacking. He, along with Kyra worked together to hinder Damian's plan and find Alex and Sabine Pleasure by hacking through cameras.
    • Video Analysis: He is also skilled in video analysis and computer hacking skills. He analyzed CVCC security cameras by hacking into them and triangulate his t target's position.
  • Gadgetry:  Being a skilled adventurer, Smithers provides agents with gadgets of his own making that will likely help them on their missions. Almost every agent in MI6 trusts Derek's resourcefulness, as Alex speaks highly of Smithers to Kyra.
