During January 2012, Malia accompanied her pack mates, Scott McCall, Kira Yukimura, Lydia Martin and her boyfriend Stiles to rescue Derek Hale from Kate Argent after believing the Calaveras abducted him.
In 117, Malia accompanied Scott to the Hale loft and learn information from Peter about Kate deaging Derek to an age where he trusted her. Malia realized that Kate had no control over her shape-shifting and that she was using Derek so he can opened the Hale vault and retrieve the Hale Triskelion, believing it to have magical properties. Later, after being transformed back into his adult self, Derek saved his cousin, and his friends, Scott and Kira.
In "Orphaned," Malia and Derek worked together to find the rest of Satomi Ito's pack. He needed her due to the eight years she spent living at the Beacon Hills Reserve as a full coyote. They ended up finding Braeden instead.
In "Weaponized," Malia finally figured out she was a Hale by looking at the hitlist listing her as "Malia Hale." She realized that the Tastes were not her biological family as she previously thought she that Peter was her biological father and that meant she was Derek's cousin.
