Deadpool (real name Wade Wilson) is a fictional super anti-hero in Marvel Comics. He is the titular main protagonist of the Deadpool comics, a major character in the X-Men franchise and a supporting character in the Spider-Man franchise. He is a deadly but wisecracking vigilante/assassin who knows he is also a fictional character, often breaking the fourth wall. He is a mutant who is given self-heading abilities, but is physically scarred and ashamed of his scars, so he operates wearing a red suit that conceals his identity and his disfigurement. Deadpool is often as a member of the X-Force and an ally of the X-Men. Wade also has a love hate relationship with with Peter Parker (AJA Spider-Man), who he often teases. He was created by Fabian Nicieza and Rob Liefeld, and first appeared in The New Mutants #98 (February 1991).

Wade also made appearances in the X-Men Cinematic Universe as minor character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine and the main protagonist of the Deadpool trilogy. He will make his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the trilogy's third film being released in this continuity unlike its predecessors. This is due to Disney's acquisition of 20th Fox Century in 2019. He is portrayed by Ryan Reynolds, who also portrayed Hal Jordan in the 2011 film adaptation of Green Lantern.
