D'Artagnan is the protagonist of the 1844 novel, The Three Musketeers and its following adaptations.

The Three Musketeers[]

D'Artagnan is a young man who lives in a farm on Gascony, the country side of France with his parents. Before he departs for Paris, D'Artagnan's father gives him their old horse, Buttercup, fifteen crowns and a letter of recommendation for D'Artagnan to give to Treville. However, a long the way, d'Artagnan picks up a fight with the Cardinal's men and loses his letter and has nothing to show Captain Treville. Coming to the Musketeers' Garrison, d'Artagnan comes across Athos, Porthos and Aramis and meets de Treville, explained what happened to him on his way to Paris. Despite losing his father's letter to Treville, the Captain of the Musketeers. Treville still gets d'Artagnan to train elsewhere and a chance to become a Musketeer one day.
