- “The Observants look at time like they are watching a parade: one thing after another, passing by in sequence right in front of them. I see the parade from above - all the twists and turns it might, or might not, take.”
- ―Clockwork to Danny Phantom
Clockwork is a supporting protagonist in the Nickelodeon television series Danny Phantom and the overarching protagonist of the graphic novel A Glitch in Time. He is the Ghost of Time who protects the timeline in which it is written. Clockwork is also Danny Phantom's few allies in the Ghost Zone and acts as a mentor of sorts to the teenager, secretly testing him on several occasions.
He was voiced by the late Golden Globe-nominated actor David Carradine
History[]
Clockwork debuted as the deuteragonist of the series' second special The Ultimate Enemy. He is initially presents himself as an enemy of Danny, but is secretly giving him a test of character after seeing him cheat on CAT after witnessing his turn into Dan Phantom in one timeline. However, Clockwork stops the explosion that kills Danny's friends, family and teacher after Danny proves himself and declares he will never turn into the dark version of himself and gives the boy a second chance after seeing Danny is not a cheater and then becomes an ally to Team Phantom.
He later appears in "The Masters of Time", where he lets Danny go into his parents' past to stop Vlad from getting powers. However, it only creates an alternate future in which his father Jack gets the Ecto-acne and Vlad and Maddie are married. Clockwork tells Danny to save Vlad, Sam and Tucker in the present, not the past and is seen smiling, showing Clockwork was secretly testing him yet again.
