~ Claudia showcasing her sadistic side to Terry while intimidating a dragon.

Claudia is the secondary antagonist of Netflix's animated drama series, The Dragon Prince.

She is the only daughter of High Mage Viren, the sister of Soren and the paternal half-sister of the Being. She is also the former crush of Callum and the archrival of Rayla. She is also a pawn in Aaravos' release and has started to go on a donated spiral after her father dies, her brother leaves her and her mother abandoned her as a child.

She is voiced by Raquel Belmont as a teenager and Colette Woods as a child in Season 5.

Biography[]

Early History[]

Claudia was born as the youngest and only daughter of Viren and Lissa, making her one of their two children. Throughout her childhood, she witnessed her parents constantly arguing. However, everything changed when her brother Soren fell gravely ill. In a desperate attempt to save him, Claudia discovered that her father resorted to using dark magic. This revelation disgusted her mother, Lissa, who decided to leave Viren and Soren behind. Lissa presented Claudia with a choice: to either accompany her mother or stay with her father and Soren. Ultimately, Claudia chose to stay and promised her mother that she would take care of Soren no matter what.

One day, while in the company of Soren and presumably Barius, a baker from Katolis, Claudia experienced the death of Barius' cat named Biscuits. In an effort to console everyone, Claudia used dark magic to create an illusion of Biscuits. The spell was successful, but Soren discovered Claudia's use of dark magic without their father's permission. He threatened to inform Viren about it. Claudia attempted to convince Soren that she used dark magic to bring Biscuits back, but he refused to believe her. Despite this, Claudia found the illusion of the cat to be beautiful and enjoyed petting "Biscuits", asserting that dark magic had the power to accomplish anything.

As the years went by, Claudia delved deeper into the world of dark magic, gaining more attention and affection than Soren. This was because Soren, as the older brother, focused on training to become a skilled swordsman rather than learning magic. Callum, King Harrow's stepson, developed a crush on Claudia.

One day, Viren's mentor, Kpp'Ar, went missing while preparing a surprise for Claudia and Soren in his puzzle house. Reluctantly, they decided to investigate. Inside the puzzle house, they stumbled upon a stone giant in one of the rooms, prompting them to flee and abandon the house.

The following day, Callum approached Claudia and advised her to confront her feelings of sadness regarding her mother's departure. He believed that expressing her emotions would help her heal and move forward. However, Claudia stubbornly refused to listen and instead chose to remember her mother in her own way.

Claudia had a conversation with the stone giant, Kruha, and upon comprehending his situation, she decided to confine him in his chamber. However, Claudia later had a change of heart and resolved to release Kruha. Kruha, who was entrusted with safeguarding a map, disclosed that only individuals with a pure heart could perceive its contents. This rendered Kpp'Ar incapable of discerning what was depicted on the map, prompting him to restrain Kruha in order to ascertain if he possessed any valuable information. Unfortunately, Kpp'Ar vanished before he could carry out his plan of liberating Kruha.

Claudia attempted to present Kruha with his map after aiding him in escaping from the house. However, he declined the offer, insisting that she had earned it. Claudia, on the other hand, doubted her ability to view the map, believing that her recent magical mishaps had tainted her heart and caused others to become angry with her. Overwhelmed with emotion, Claudia began to weep, but Kruha consoled her and reassured her that she would indeed be able to see the map. He attributed this to her kindness towards him, seeing him not as a monster but as an individual. With a farewell, Kruha promised Claudia that they would cross paths again in the future.

Upon returning to the castle the following morning, Claudia sought out the map, only to be intercepted by Viren. He expressed regret for not spending enough time with Claudia and her brother since their mother's departure, and then offered her the opportunity to practice magic in one of the rooms in his dungeon. After a heartfelt embrace, Viren noticed the map but advised Claudia against using it due to its high quality paper. He then excused himself to speak with Soren. Claudia later examined the map and discovered the location of a unicorn.

Many years later, after Queen Sarai's death at the hands of Avizandum, Claudia tracked down a unicorn and obtained its horn. This horn was then used by Viren to create a powerful spell capable of defeating Avizandum. Following the dragon's demise, Viren seized his egg and concealed it in his dungeon. Claudia was aware of this but chose not to intervene, believing that her father's actions were ultimately for the greater good of humanity.

Book Two: Sky (2019)[]

The tracking spell led Claudia in Soren to the Moon Nexus, where they came across Rayla, who was doing a second round of patrol. Claudia began playing a small flute that put Rayla to sleep. The siblings approached the Elven girl, and Claudia urged Soren to finish her off. However, Soren thought that slaughtering Rayla in her sleep wasn't noble or sporting for his taste. Claudia reluctantly started playing the flute only for Rayla to suddenly bounce up and push Soren away from her. The young elf revealed that she stayed awake by poking a moon rose thorn in her thumb. With that out of the way, Rayla and Soren engaged in a one-on-one battle with each other before Callum rushed in to stop them. She is immediately taken in by Azymondias' cuteness; however Rayla protectively stands in front of Zym and Ezran because she doesn't trust them. During this time, Soren blurts out that the king is still alive. He misinterprets Claudia's instructions to find some way to reason with the princes and bring them back home. During her date with Callum, Claudia tells Callum that his father is dead. Does Rayla is about to tell him, she sees that Claudia already has when she sees Callum crying.

Claudia and Callum

Claudia handed Callum his father's unsealed letter to him attempting to use friendlier methods tactics to get Callum and Ezran to come with them.

Despite Claudia trying the tactic of using friendlier methods, Soren convinced her they had to take the two princes home by force. They pretend to join the team on their quest to end the war between human and magic kingdoms. However, Rayla, Ellis, and Ava create illusionary versions of Callum, Ezran, and Azymondias, only for Soren and Claudia to fail in their mission to capture the princes. Fortunately, Team Zym escapes on Phoe-Phoe and Corvus frees them from Claudia and Soren's grasp. The two then arrest Corvus, calling him a traitor.

The siblings and their captive make it to a town where it is being intimidated by Pyrrah, a young dragon. He decided to bring the young dragon down. After Soren provoked Pyrrah, she started firing at others. Soren set Corvus free so he could help innocent civilians. When Soren's plan backfired, Claudia brought Pyrrah down with Griffin's eye. Claudia and Soren see the Moonshadow elf, Rayla, there to defend the dragon as her responsibility to be the daughter of two Dragon guards. However, Soren mocks the girl for her unnecessary heroics. Fortunately, Callum returns, much to Claudia's relief at seeing her friend okay. However, she panics when she sees Callum holding her spellbook and the carcass of a viper from Xadia. She tries convincing him not to use it because first-time useres need to be taught how to properly handle it. However, Callum claims she already has and he uses dark magic by literally taking a page out of Claudia's spell book and freeing Pyrrah from her chains.

Claudia Steps Closer to Ezran and Zym

When Soren sees Rayla trying to get the dragon to move, he holds her at sword point and starts mocking her for saving a dead dragon. However, Pyrrah awakens and seeks revenge on Soren for bringing her down. She throws him up against boulders, causing him to suffer from spinal damage, temporarily paralyzing him. After Ezran and Zym show up, Pyrrah presumably recognizes the infant Dragon as the Dragon Prince and she subsequently leads. Claudia started to cast a dark magic spell that would capture Ezran and Zym but Soren called to her for help. Forced to choose between following her father's orders to capture the egg or saving Soren, Claudia chooses the latter.

At the hospital, despite his paralysis, Soren takes comfort in this because it means he won't have to go after the princes like his father ordered him to. Later Claudia fully healed her brother from his paralysis. by sacrificing a baby deer, much to his horror. After leaving the hospital, Soren tells Claudia that they both failed their missions.

Book Three: Sun (2019)[]

In Between the Sagas[]

Claudia spent the next two years trying to being her father back to life which she had to do things she never thought she is capable of. Eventually, Aaravos made his presence known to her, telling her he could help her bring Viren back if she freed him. However, he warned Claudia that the resurrection spell wouldn't be a permanent fix and Viren would only have thirty days to free him or her father would duet when time ran out. Despite the risks, During that time, as Claudia went to great lengths to bring him back, Aaravos' caterpillar preserved her father's body in a cacoon and Claudia began a romantic relationship with Terry, a transgender male elf. After gathering all the artifacts for the spell she needed and doing more, Claudia brought her father back to life.

Two days before this, Aaravos that the entity that would emerge from the cocoon would guide them to the answers they would require. To achieve this, the relic staff was required to help the Being emerge from its cocoon.

The Mystery of Aaravos[]

Book Four: Earth (2022)[]

As Viren drew his first breath since his resurrection, he opened up his eyes and saw that Claudia's hair had turned half white. She started crying that he was okay. He asked if he survived the fall and Claudia said he didn't. She explained that Aaravos' familiar had spun itself into a cocoon and began metamorphosing two days prior. Viren asked if he was dead for two days. However, Claudia revealed that it has been two years. After Viren was revived, Claudia told her father that he only had 30 days to live if they didn't free Aaravos, who could make the spell permanent. She also added that Aaravos' familiar was metamorphosing in a cocoon, which the Being emerged from so he would guide them to Aaravos' prison. Claudia, despite her father's hatred towards elves, believed he liked to find out that she had a boyfriend who is one, an Earthblood elf named Terrestrius, or Terry for short, and introduced him to Viren, who disapproved.

She goes to the Storm Spire with Viren and Terry so they can get Viren's staff. However, Viren told Claudia that he would have rather spent the next thirty days with what time he had left, causing an angry Claudia to also him across the face, telling at him that she worked to hard to bring him back-even doing unspeakable things to bring and swearing she wasn't turning back now. He decided to wait until Claudia and Terry got the staff, as he was afraid of climbing the Storm Spire as he still had memories of his death.

After Claudia was able to get the staff, Ibis appeared and took it from her, with the plan to destroy the staff. The two then have a fight, where Claudia accidentally stabs herself in her left leg, causing her to have to crawl to her staff. While she was crawling to get the staff, Ibis understood she was too dangerous to be kept alive and tried to kill her, only for Terry to appear and kill Ibis and save Claudia.

They go back to the cave where Aaravos' familiar was metamorphosing and that night, Terry talks to Viren about how he was living with the actions he did for his family since he was crying over having killed Ibis. Claudia cast spells and made a creature come out of the cocoon, who Claudia called Sir Sparklepuff.

They go to Umber Tor to find Rex Igneous, as he has the map of the prison Aaravos was in. While going there, Claudia finds Soren, and the two fight, with Soren tying Claudia to a tree so she wouldn't escape. The two talk about Aaravos, with Soren, telling Claudia that he was manipulating her, but Claudia tells Soren that his elf and dragon friends are doing the same, as elves and dragons have always done nothing to help humans in their worst moments, unlike Aaravos who saw potential in them.

Terry appears and frees Claudia and ties Soren in roots. After this, Claudia, Terry, and Sir Sparklepuff go to find objects for a magic spell while Viren stays with Soren, after they get the objects, Claudia asks for her father to do the spell, but Viren refuses, saying that he is not ready to use his staff again yet.

Claudia, Terry, and Viren entered Rex Igneous' cave and put Team Zym and Rex sleeping with a spell. Claudia and Terry try to create a map through the teeth of Rex Igneous since he had the map to Aaravos' prison carved in his teeth. However, Rayla woke Rex by stabbing him in his left paw, causing the cave to collapse.

While Terry and Claudia were escaping, Rayla held Terry hostage, but Claudia showed her the coins that had the souls of Runaan and Rayla's parents, and threw them to lava, causing Rayla to release Terry to save them, only for it to be revealed that Claudia threw rocks, and that Claudia still had the coins. However, Terry told her that what she did to Rayla was wrong, causing Claudia to give Rayla the coins with her loved ones' souls and then leave.

Book Five: Ocean (2023)[]

After leaving Umber Tor and going back to their camp, Viren fell unconscious, and while Terry stayed with Viren, Claudia went to a pond where she cleaned her face. After this, she saw her face and how over the two years she spent trying to revive her father, she got older, with her remarking that even her eyes looked that way. Claudia then remembered the actions she did over the two years she spent reviving her father, causing her to splash away her reflection.

When Claudia saw Aaravos' homunculus and noticed it was mimicking her, Claudia made several movements that it repeated and then asked it why they needed it anymore, to which it didn't listen. She then tried to convince it to allow her to speak with Aaravos, but it failed. Claudia then told her reflection and came to believe that Aaravos left her, like her father, Soren, and her mother.

After stopping herself from mentioning her mother, Claudia remembered the day she left her, causing her to start crying. Claudia then noticed that the homunculus was still with her even after what had happened, and when she told it that it wasn't such bad company, the homunculus showed her a snail with skin made of jewels. Claudia then killed said snail and used it for a dark magic spell, which caused her face to change, making her eyes brighter and her face fuller.

Claudia then said to herself that she was stronger than anyone thought she was and that her father and Aaravos were aware of that. After trying to touch the homunculus on its shoulder, she noticed how it acted like a child, who looked at her with bright and luminous eyes.

About a week later, Viren still hadn't awoken from his coma, and Claudia was becoming desperate. She insisted that they had to move as quickly as possible to reach Aaravos's prison before the deadline for the resurrection spell ran out. Terry, realizing that Claudia was stressed, insisted that they rest a little while longer and offered to help her relax. Claudia was reluctant at first, but eventually, Terry was able to ease her nerves by showing her an adorapurr for her to cuddle with. The comfort seemed to work, only for the pair to be surprised by Sparklepuff screaming "blood of child" at the top of its lungs.

Growing desperate in the morning, she and Terry drag Viren's comatose body, with Claudia hoping to reach Aaravos before the time limit on Viren's resurrection spell expires. Eventually collapsing from exhaustion after ignoring Terry's warning to rest, she wakes up on a makeshift boat made by Terry to carry them and Viren down the river to the location of Aaravos's prison. They eventually cross into rough waters, falling over the edge of a waterfall, sending Viren falling into the river and forcing Claudia to dive in and save him. A few moments after dragging him back to shore, Viren manages to wake up from his coma, albeit in a catatonic and slightly vegetative state.

They continue their journey to Aaravos, with Claudia and Terry engaging in several comical dances to communicate with Viren via body language. After a while, the couple noticed an ocean dragon circling over their location, trying to find them, to Claudia's growing frustration. It all comes to a head when the dragon finds and ambushes them, blasting their boat onto the shore.

Angered by the dragon's interference, she tries to attack it with her staff, only to get disarmed. She then uses a spell to redirect the dragon's ocean blast back at it, freezing the water and using it to restrain and strangle it. Claudia takes a disturbing amount of sadistic joy at her newfound power over a dragon that, in her mind, is used to humans being weak and powerless before announcing that times have changed.

She begins to slowly choke the creature before Terry talks her down and assures her that the dragon can't harm them if it's immobilized state. Claudia agrees to spare it, but only because she takes satisfaction in knowing that the dragon will live in fear of her before releasing it and watching her flee in terror. Claudia orders everyone to get back on the boat, with Viren watching the whole scene with enough consciousness to be horrified by what his daughter is turning into.

Arriving at the Sea of the Castout the next day, Claudia and Terry quickly realize that the prison of Aaravos is at the bottom of the sea. Capturing and killing a purple Pentapus, Claudia uses its blood to turn herself into an octopus hybrid so she can swim underwater without drowning. At the bottom of the water, she confronts Callum and Ezran. She initially tries to reason with them and justify her actions to them, but after noticing Ezran's suspicious expression, she realizes he knows where Aaravos's prison is and lunges at him.

Separating him from Callum with a stalactite, she restrains Ez with a tentacle and squeezes him to force him to tell her where the prison is. Initially taken by surprise when Rayla shoots arrows at her and when Ezran has a school of fish attack her, she regains the upper hand and uses her tentacles to restrain all 3 of them before once again interrogating Ezran on Aaravos's whereabouts.

Briefly distracted when Ezran looks in the direction of the seashell where the prison is held, Rayla reclaims her blades with Stella's help and cuts off the tentacle restraining her (which was also her left leg). Screaming in pain from the blow, she's distracted long enough for Callum to take the potion, helping maintain her transformation and empty it. With her transformation wearing off and her air supply running out, she desperately swims back to the surface in defeat.

Barely making it back to shore just as the sun is beginning to set, Claudia is found by Terry. Crying despair over the loss of her leg and her failure to free Aaravos and save her father, she's pulled into a comforting hug by Terry as she sobs.

Book Six: Stars (2024)[]

After Viren refuses to kill the Being, Aaravos appears before Claudia and tells her that only way to make her resurrection spell on Viren permanent is to sacrifice the Being, presumably telling her that the homunculus is his and Viren's technical child and therefore her half-brother. Claudia murders the Being in the Infantis Sanguine ritual. This saves Viren's life but despite this and Claudia's insistence that they do anything for family, even dark magic, Viren leaves her. Feeling abandoned by everyone she ever loved, Claudia broke up with Terry before setting off on her own.

However, when Claudia calms down, she returns to Terry, who helps clean the Blood out of her hair before cutting out. Throughout the encounter Claudia remains in a vegetative state until silence breaks. After everything that happens, Claudia confided in Terry that she should forsake all dark magic when she watches a magical creature. However, Claudia changes her mind upon her father's death edged he sacrifices himself to save and protect the people of Katolis when Sol Regem attacked and destroyed the castles.

After a small funeral for her father, Claudia finds Aaravos' prison in the ruins of the castle (which Aaravos made sure that Prince Callum, who unbeknownst to him, switched the fake pearl with the real one). Aaravos appears before Claudia and convinced her to free him from his prison with a star spell. However Claudia cannot cast it because the spell also requires love, something she can't do. Aaravos shares his daughter Leola's story with Claudia, who is motivated by the Elf's love for his daughter as well as his vengeance. The young Mage successfully frees Aaravos from his prison and the final battle for the fate of the world begins.

Personality[]

She also doesn't understand why Callum and Soren are abhorrent about dark magic. In the former's case, she comments that Callum always had a "judgy face" whenever she performed it. In the latter's case she admonished Soren for dismissing dark magic because Viren used it to save his life. She also dismissed him when Soren scolds her for creating an illusion of Biscuit, Barius' pet cat without their dad's permission and trying to free Aaravos.

Trivia[]

  • During the trailer and poster, Claudia is in great pain of sadness, presumably after her father is gone. This implies that Claudia is close to a breaking point or is driven insane.
    • It was also theorized by a YouTuber that Aaravos goaded Claudia into killed the Being so she could ensure her father's survival and why she seemingly has its blood on her hair. This was likely born from the fact that one of the creators confirmed that Lord Viren was still alive by the time book 6 occurred. This was later confirmed in "Startouched" when Viren and Terry find Claudia murdered the being as she is covered in blood.
    • It is also rumored that Claudia broke up with Terry, but according to the official Dragon Prince wiki they're still together.
  • For most of the series, Claudia was led to be the sole secondary antagonist of the series, with her father as the main villain and Aaravos as the overarching antagonist. However, as the series progresses, Claudia and Viren are both secondary antagonists, with Aaravos becoming the true threat. With Viren showing remorse for his actions in Season 6, Claudia becomes a secondary threat.
  • She bears a resemblance to her mother. However, it is currently unknown if Lissa has blonde hair like Soren or brown hair like Claudia due to her appearing as an empty colored illustration in Season 6. Lissa's hair being blonde is more likely given that Soren certainly didn't get his hair color from his father.
  • Claudia's eyes are ironically green because, in ancient times, green eyes were sometimes a sign for someone practiced witchcraft. This may have factored into Claudi
  • Claudia is somewhat similar to Morgana Pendragon from BBC's Merlin. They're both dark brown haired women with green eyes and start the show as shy and kindhearted girls at first who become exceptionally powerful dark witches. They also initially close friends with the protagonist, Merlin and Callum, who are also their equals in terms of magic. Additionally both Morgana and Claudia each have a brother who has blonde hair and originally an arrogant bully who turned friend of the heroes and both women ultimately go down a dark path.
  • According to Aaron Ehasz, if Katara and Claudia got into a duel together, he responded that Season 7 Claudia would likely be able to beat Katara.
