―Cersei threatening Ned Stark about revealing the truth about her progeny.

Queen Cersei Lannister is one of the main antagonists of the A Song of Ice and Fire novel series and its television adaptation, Game of Thrones.

She is the daughter of Lord Tywin Lannister, the twin sister and lover of Ser Jaime Lannister, the older sister and archenemy of Tyrion Lannister, who she has an undying hated for being the cause of their mother dying in child birth and a prophecy told her that one day, she would be killed by her younger brother and be overthrown by a queen more beautiful than her. In the TV series, it's revealed the Queen who overthrown her was Daenerys Targaryen, it has yet to be explored in the book series.

She is also the ex-sister-in-law of Sansa Stark, the ex-wife of the late King Robert I Baratheon and mother of Prince Joffrey, Princess Myrcella, and Prince Tommen, who were all born out of incest between her and her twin brother Jaime. She is also the primary archenemy of the Houses Baratheon, Stark and later Targaryen.

History[]

Powers and Abilities[]

Appearance[]

Cersei is a beautiful woman with dirty blonde hair, fair skin and blue eyes. Her hair was significantly long in earlier seasons but she later cut it in a pixie cut.

Personality[]

Cersei is best defined by her intimidating leadership, cunning and charismatic but manipulative personality. This also extended to her own brothers, even going on a war path to kill her brother Tyrion before he can kill her and her family and hunting down her own former sister-in-law, Sansa Stark. However the true reason for Cersei's hatred of Tyrion is blaming him for the death of their mother just for being born and Old Maggy's prophecy stating that Tyrion would one day kill her.

Despite her rather cool nature, Cersei is a little bit honorable as she scolded her brother Jaime for pushing Bran Stark down the tower when they could have just intimidated him into silence.

Titles[]

  • Light of the West (self-styled and briefly used)

Quotes[]

Everyone who isn't us is an enemy.
―Cersei to Joffrey Baratheon.
One day I pray you love someone. I pray you love her so much, when you close your eyes, you see her face. I want that for you. I want you to know what it's like to love someone, truly love someone, before I take her from you.
―Cersei to Tyrion Lannister.
The only way to keep people loyal is to make certain they fear you more than they do the enemy.
―Cersei giving advice to Sansa Stark.
The more people you love, the weaker you are.
―Cersei to Sansa.
What good is power if you cannot protect the ones you love?
―Cersei to Oberyn Martell.
I do things because they feel good. I drink because it feels good. I killed my husband because it felt good to be rid of him. I fuck my brother because it feels good to feel him inside me. I lie about fucking my brother, because it feels good to keep our son safe from hateful hypocrites. I killed your High Sparrow... and all his little sparrows... all his septons, all his septas, all his filthy soldiers, because it felt good to watch them burn. It felt good to imagine their shock and their pain. No thought has ever given me greater joy.
―Cersei to Septa Unella.
I don't care about checking my worst impulses, I don't care about making the world a better place. Hang the world.
―Cersei to Tyrion.
I want our baby to live. I want our baby to live. I want our baby to live. Don't let me die, Jaime. Please don't let me die. Please don't let me die. I don't want to die. Not like this. Not like this. Not like this.
―Cersei's last words to Jaime before they are crushed by a ceiling.

Trivia[]

  • There are several things to note about Cersei's Fortune given to her by Maggy.
    • According to Old Maggy, Cersei will marry a king.
      • While Cersei believed that the king would be Rhaegar Targaryen, in truth, it turns out she would later marry Robert Baratheon. Instead Rhaegar was slain in battle.
        • While she had the same thought in the series, in both the book and serues, Aerys II refused to betroth Cersei to Rhaegar, who instead married a Dornish princess and had two children with her.
        • In the TV series, Rhaegar married Elia Martell, but later divorced her. He later married Lyanna Stark and fathered her son, Aegon Targaryen who would grow up to be the boy, Jon Snow.
    • She will have three children who will have golden crowns, and while the king has 16.
      • Cersei give birth to three children with blonde hair (Myrcella, Tommen and Joffrey) and Robert has sixteen (possibly more) illegitimate children. )
    • She will outlive all of her children. It comes true in the television sets when Joffrey and Myrcella are fatally poisoned and Tommen commits suicide. However in the books, Myrcella and Tommen are still alive.
    • She will be overthrown by a queen more beautiful than she. Some readers predicted this would be Daenerys Targaryen, who is stated to be very beautiful and intimidating.
      • While this happened in the TV series, it hasn't happened in the series yet. However, in the novels, another candidate could be in relation to her daughter-in-law,, Margaery Tyrell, and Her ex-sister-in-law, Sansa Stark, who is defacto Queen of the North to those who believe Rickon or Bran Stark to be deceased.
    • Her younger brother would know day kill her. However, while she believes her brother Tyrion could kill her, this portion of the prophecy could be referring to her twin brother, Jaime Lannister, who is her younger twin brother by a few moments.
