Celaeno is a minor antagonist in the novel The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle and the Rankin and Bass film adaptation of the same name.
She is a harpy that was held captive by Mommy Fortuna for her midnight circus. Unlike the other creatures, Celaeno is a real, true immortal much like Amalthea was when she was captured. She later tricks the Unicorn into freeing her and kills Fortuna once Celaeno is free.
Role in the film[]
Background[]
Celaeno was a harpy who was somehow captured by Mommy Fortuna; according to Schmendrick, she captured her as she did the unicorn by placing her under a powerful sleeping spell. Since then, Celaeno has vowed her revenge.
Final Fate[]
After killing Fortuna and Ruhk, Celaeno flies away once she fails to spot the Unicorn and Schmendrick, deciding to no longer pursue them.
She is last seen in a nightmare that Lady Amalthea (the Unicorn’s human identity) envisions as she starts forgetting about her previous life as a unicorn.
