Brienne Tarth, commonly known as Brienne of Tarth, is one of the tritagonists of the A Song of Ice and Fire novel series and its television adaptation Game of Thrones.
She is a noble, brave, and selfless warrior, the last surviving child and daughter of Lord Selwyn Tarth, the Lord of Evanfall Hall, the sister of the Late Galladon Tarth, Alysanne and Arianne Tarth. Although women cannot be knighted, Brienne embodies all the qualities that a knight should have. This distinction sets her apart from the more corrupt knights in the series, who are often selfish and pampered. She is sometimes called the Maid of Tarth and mocked as Brienne the Beauty. She is also a descendant of Ser Duncan the Tall.
In the television series, she was portrayed by Gwendoline Christie, who also plays Larissa Weems in Wednesday.
Personality[]
Brienne follows the traditional style and codes of a knight, despite not being one (women can't be knighted). In essence, although she cannot be a knight herself, she represents the values of knighthood (chivalry, honor, duty, justice, bravery, etc.), especially in a nation where many knights are corrupt and violent.
She is extremely loyal to whoever she deems as worthy of serving.
