Brandon Stark

Brandon Stark is a minor character of A Song of Ice and Fire and its TV adaptation, Game of Thrones. He was the eldest son of Rickard Stark, the brother of Eddard, Lyanna, and Benjen Stark, the paternal uncle (maternal uncle in the TV series) of Jon Snow, and the paternal uncle of Robb, Sansa, Arya, Bran and Rickon Stark.

Before the series Brandon and Rickard are both executed by the Mad King, Aerys II Targaryen, as his eldest son Brandon died by strangulation trying to escape his own execution and save his father from burning alive. This and Aerys' demand to Jon Arryn hand over his foster sons, Robert Baratheon and Eddard Stark, led the three men to declare war on House Targaryen for the unwarranted deaths of Ned's father and brother.

Eddard used to think that his sister Lyanna and their older brothers were hot tempered and rash, as this lead to their own demises.

Trivia[]

  • In the TV series, while Brandon is Jon's uncle, he is his maternal uncle.
  • He is Bran Stark's namesake.
