History

Background

Early Life

Profile Beast Boy

Garfield Mark Logan was born around fourteen years prior to the series to bio-engineers and geneticists Mark and Marie Logan, and often traveled around the world with them. He grew up within the jungles of Brazil because of this. His parents' interest in the green monkey they searched for came to tragedy. One of the monkeys Garfield encountered, the creature bit him. Unfortunately, the bite would lead the young boy to contracting Sakutia, a rare disease found in animals and Garfield would Desperate to cure their son, Mark and Maria used their skills in genetics and physics to create a serum meant to reverse the effects and ultimately save him. After Garfield was injected with the serum, it did more than cure him. Instead, the cure and the disease mutating Gar's cells and rewrote his genetic makeup. Receiving a metagene, the procedure caused Garfield's pale skin, blonde hair and blue eyes to turn green and granted him the ability to transform into any animal at will.

Unfortunately, Garfield's parents were killed in a boating accident while he was able to survive by flying away in the form of a bird. This moment would forever haunt Garfield for the rest of his life [1].

Apart from his tragedies, Beast Boy had at one time, hero-worshipped Robin (Teen Titans) and Batman (DC), the Dynamic Duo. [2]

Joining the Doom Patrol

BB becomes member of team

Beast Boy becomes a member of the Doom Patrol.

After his parents' deaths, Gar began going by the alias Beast Boy. He tried infiltrating the headquarters of the Doom Patrol, a team of superheroes he had looked up to. However, the team had caught him trying to break-in to their privacy and set up traps for himt o prevent Beast Boy from infiltrating it. Using his shape-shifting abilities, Garfield was able to dodge the attacks byt urning into animals that could evade the traps. Impressed with Beast Boy's skills, the Doom Patrol allowed him to become a member of their group. [1]

He became the youngest member of the Patrol and was eventually adopted by Mento and Elasti-Girl, but had a strained relationship with Mento because of his harsh nature and terrible methods. During a mission against the Brain, Beast Boy had chosen to save his family over completing their mission, which earned chastising from Mento.[3] Fed up with Mento's abuse, Garfield left Doom Patrol and left for

Teen Titans

Foundation of the Teen Titans

The Titans formed

BB becoming a member of the newly-formed Teen Titans.

Upon Beast Boy's arrival to the city, he noticed trouble happening down town and went to help Robin first. Awestruck at meeting his childhood hero, BB wore a mask to withhold his identity. He later met Cyborg and Raven as they battled Starfire, a princess from another planet. BB and the team decided to split off; however, Beast Boy and his newfound friends learned that the Gordanians were the true threats. He joined Robin, Cyborg and Raven in protecting Starfire and Jump City.

In the aftermath, the future team went on an island, where Titans Tower would eventually be built. He joked to Raven, who admitted he was kind of funny. Taking this complement, it would cause Beast Boy to become a jokester and prankster among the Titans. After being given a Titans communicator by Robin in case they needed each other again, Beast Boy and his four friends founded the Teen Titans. Cyborg built Titans Tower on the island where they stood, and the team went to live there, and set it up as their headquarters. BB got his own room but never explored his past with his friends.

Powers

  • Metahuman physiology: Beast Boy became a metahuman upon being bitten by a green monkey that caused him to grow extremely ill with the Sakutia disease. Both Mark and Marie Logan attempted to cure him by creating a serum to save their son. The two factors resulted in changing Beast Boy's entire genetic make-up, granting him superpowers.
    • Animal Transformation: Due to the incident, Gar was given the ability to shapeshift to any animal he desires, At first, he had trouble transforming into larger animals but learned how to as the series progressed, as he was able to shapeshift into a Tyrannosaurus Rex.
    • Wisecracking/Sense of Humor: Beast Boy has a sense of humor he often uses to lighten the mood, but no one really finds him funny.
  • Martial Arts: Robin tought Beast Boy how to fight in martial arts or hand-to-hand combat in case he is rendered powerless.
  • Leadership: Due to his past experiences on Doom Patrol, Beast Boy can become a leader and has been willing to lead when the position is given to him. He was able to lead the survivors of Teen Titans and their allies to a successful infiltration of the Brotherhood of Evil's headquarters.

Relationships

Raven

Raven and Beast Boy are extremely close, bickering almost as if they were an old married couple, at least, according to the creators of the show. When the two first met, in the prequel episode "Go!" Raven found it silly Beast Boy wearing a mask with his costume. Despite him claiming he does  not want his secret to be exposed, Raven points out that his skin is green, thus rendering the disguise pointless. At the end of the episode, Raven has admitted that she finds him "kind of funny," fueling his desire to make her laugh in later episodes.

Despite their differences, Raven and Beast Boy have looked out for one another. In "Final Exam," Starfire nearly lashed out Raven, accusing her of not trying hard have to find Robin when he was missing. However, Beast Boy immediately came into Raven's defense while also comforting Starfire with the fact that Robin always shows up when they least expect it. Later, when Cyborg began scolding Beast Boy for making a joke after they were kicked out of Titans Tower, Raven comforted him by putting a hand on his shoulder, which actually drove her to snap at Cyborg. Of course, their relationship can be strained at times. During the episode "Nevermore," Beast Boy had inadvertently hurt Raven's feelings. Robin made him apologize to her. After literally being transported into Raven's head with Cyborg. Beast Boy and Raven have a better understanding of each other.

Cyborg (Best Friend)

Nevermore (36)

Cyborg is one of the few best friends who Beast Boy has. Most of the time, they will either pull pranks on each other that someone else will fall victim for (Starfire, for instance). They can also get competitive with each other, especially with video games or pranks (Sisters). Of course, Cyborg never means to make his best friend feel uncomfortable or under appreciated, mostly bantering and acting like brothers. Most of the time, either Cyborg or Beast Boy will get the other in trouble. They invaded Raven's mind in the episode "Nevermore," and could not find a way to escape it. The three friends gained a better understanding of each other after this adventure. During the "Apprentice" arc, Cyborg found Beast Boy's theories about Robin being mind controlled by zombies or being replaced by a robot duplicate ridiculous.

Of course, Cyborg can be mean towards Beast Boy, such as finding it hilarious how Mento often used BB as a target for their enemies, while Robin did not find it funny at all. In the prequel episode, Cy also noted how ridiculous it was that Beast Boy was wearing a mask because his green skin was a dead giveaway. Despite their somewhat strained relationship, BB and Cy help each other and are as thick as thieves. They also root for Robin and Starfire's relationship to thrive and often tease Robin about his crush on the alien princess.

Aqualad

Beast Boy didn't initially get along with Aqualad. When they first met, Beast Boy thought Aqualad was showing off and stubbornly refused to work with him until Robin told them to look for trident together. After a while, they realized they needed to work together to defeat Trident after realizing fighting between the two would get them nowhere.  The boys turned close friends as of the end of "Deep Six," where they had a friendly race at the end of the episode. Since then, they have  worked closely as members of the Teen Titans

The boys get along due to their similarities, such as refusal to eat marine/meat based food out of respect for the animals they are connected to. In Garth's case, because he lives in the sea and because Beast Boy has been most of those animals.
