Baffi is a minor character in The Dark Crystal. He is the pet Fizzgig of Maudra Fara and later, Seladon after his mistress' death.
Role in The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance[]
Baffi is first seen perched on Maudra Fara's throne, where he growled threateningly at Rian when it was believed he was a traitor to the Gelfling nation. It tried preventing him from escaping, but Baffi was outsmarted by the Gelfling.
He is later seen with his mistress when lady Aughra comes to warn Fara and the stonewood Clan but they cannot win a fight between themselves and the Skeksis. However, Fara does not heed her warnings. As Aughra gets frustrated, the Fizzgig, believing the mother of Thra is threatening Fara, begins barking at her until Aughra argues with it in the Fizzgig language, causing him to back down in fear.
Baffi later helped during the second Battle of Stone in the wood, warning Rian and the resistance of the Skeksis coming. After Fara fell, SkekOk tried to finish the Stonewood Maudra off, Baffi interfered by jumping on the Skeksis as Seladon came to help her. After Fara died of her wounds, Baffi growled into the air in mourning, causing Seladon to pick him up and confirm him as they both lost a friend.
Personality[]
Baffi was a kind and loyal pet of Maudra Fara. However, he was quite aggressive with strangers and anyone who posed as a threat to Fara, not unlike Fizzgig was Jen from the original film. He was extremely protective of her, as Baffi barked at Aughra when he thought she was threatening Fara. However he was scared of Aughra, like a child scared of his mother when she is angry at him.
After Fara died in Battle, Baffi was saddened and saught Seladon for comfort
Trivia[]
- Considering Baffi immediately turned to Seladon for comfort and she held him as they grieved for Fara's death, it's possible that Seladon had adopted him as her pet.
