History
Background
Azymondias's egg was laid at some point towards the tragic end of Avizandum and Zubeia's union and was their first and only egg. He was protected by a band of eight Elvin warriors known as the Dragon Guard. Even though he wasn't born at the time, Zym enjoyed his protectors' presence on the mountaintop. He was incubated for 10 years. He was bedded inside his mother's nest filled with moss and flowers on the top of the storm spire. His mother would lovingly whisper his name into his ears.
On the day of Azymondias' birth, a winter storm hit and was a moment of Zym to be born in the eye of the storm. His father left the egg in the care of Rayla's parents and the rest of the Dragonguard; however, Harrow murdered the Dragon King with Sarai's spear. He was petrified by a spear forged in dark magic and Queen Sarai's last breath. When word reached to the Spire that the king died, the cowardly members of the Dragon Guard ran; however, Rayla's parents remained behind until Viren overpowered them with an Arctic breath spell, tapping them in a block of ice. Viren hoped to destroy the egg to prevent Azymondias from being born. However, Lain and Tiadrin convinced him to spare the egg, which he could use as a source for dark magic one day. Viren took their advice but not before trapping the couples' soul into his coins. Rumor spread that Azymondias' egg was destroyed. However, Viren secretly kept the dragon egg in his secret laboratories below the castle.
The Dragon Prince
Book 1
Angered by the loss of her child, Zubeia ordered the elves to kill King Harrow and Prince Ezran in retribution for her mate's and child's supposed demise. Zym would remain in Viren's dungeons, until he was discovered by Princes Callum and Ezran and the assassin, Rayla. The trio decided to make a perilous journey and return the egg to his mother, Zubeia in order to bring an end to the Human-Xadia war after Rayla's foster father, Runaan, refused to listen to reason and Viren wouldn't let Callum warm his step-father. Unfortunately, on the night of the quest's founding, King Harrow was assassinated, a fact Rayla kept hidden from them.
As the trio grew closer to each other, Zym grew attached to the group despite being in the egg. As a trio growing closer, Rayla directed her friends to a trail in the mountains due to Rayla being shaken up from her confrontation with Corvus. However, Callum disagreed with their new, tough trail and the two shouted. However, Ezran told them to stop fighting or they would cause an avalanche. Unfortunately, Bait caused one when he let out a belch, and Azymondias, Callum, Ezran and Rayla found themselves at the foot of a frozen lake. The group suddenly saw that Azymondias' egg had rolled onto the surface. As Ezran retrieved the egg, he suddenly felt the ice crack underneath him. Callum grabbed onto the egg but saw he was in a similar predicament. He told Rayla that he trusted her but as she tried to tell the princess that their father was killed, Callum gave her the egg.
As a result of binding her hands as long as Harrow and Ezran is alive, Rayla accidentally dropped Azymondias' egg into a frozen lake when Callum handed it to her. They took his egg to a nearby village's healer, who incredibly told the trio that the egg was dying. The egg wasn't getting any better because Callum noticed how it was glowing and flickering but not as bright as before. The young girl, Ellis and her Wolf Ava Lee the group to Lujanne, who told them that the only way the egg could be saved is if the dragon was born in the eye of the storm. Callum was forced to sacrifice Claudia's Primal Stone to create the storm. Soon the egg hatched and the baby dragon immediately formed a telepathic connection with Ezran. The boy said the baby dragon knew his name, Azymondias but they nicknamed him "Zym" for short.

Personality
Since he is a baby, Azymondias (or rather Zym) is an innocent and playful creature who is afraid of his and afraid to fly. Upon being born, he forged strong bonds with his guardians, Ezran, Rayla, and Callum, who all dedicated themselves to protecting him from those who wished to harm him. Ezran understood him, Callum helped him hatch and Rayla rushed her life to save him from being blown off of the mountain. I'm gratitude for Rayla's sacrifices, Azymondias chewed off the binding on her hand, saving her from losing it. Ezran became one of Zym's best friends who he eventually developed a fraternal bond with. When Ezran left to rule the kingdom, Zym grew sadden by not having the young prince around. Instead, he would sit on Callum's shoulder from time to time, likely because he was Ezran's brother. Both Rayla and Callum acted as parental figures/older siblings for the young dragon. As such, Rayla grew instantly protective of Zym, up to the point where she would threaten people at sword point if they came near him (such as Claudia and Nyx).
Zym would also latch onto Callum wherever he was afraid and hide behind him, depending on him for protection at times. When they were able to save him from Nyx, Zym chattered happily upon seeing Rayla again and embraced Callum. He was further ecstatic when they were reunited with Ezran again and immediately bulled him over in an embrace. Zym's bonds with his teammates led him to becoming stronger and happier. He was even more happy then he was reunited with his mother. After a while, Azymondias has also become fiercely protective of his family and friends. When Nyx proved to be distrustful, Zym stood in front of Callum and Rayla, threatening to take her out of she came closer to them in anyway.
Zym also used to have a fear of heights and the inability to fly. However, after being threatened by Viren and Aaravos, Zym gained the courage to fly away. By season 4, the little dragon got used to flying and heights due to being around his mother more often.
As a toddler, Zym starts suffering from his "terrible twos" during the time jump between Seasons 3 and 4. He is rebellious, such as disobeying his mother twice. He would refuse to eat the vegetables Ibis gave him and snuck out of the Storm Spire to aid his friends at Rex Igneous' home. Despite never knowing his father, Azymondias is assured by his mother that Avizandum loved him. Since he was an egg, Zym still felt his father's love for him and recalled Zubeia, whispering his name on his ear. As such, he will feel insulted if someone dishonors Avizandum in any way possible.
Physical appearance
Forms
Zym had also been destined as "cute" and "adorable" (both coined by Claudia and Rayla). He is light blue scales, and white feathers on his head, resembling human hair.
