Ares is the main antagonist of the 2017 film Wonder Woman. He is the ancient god of War and longtime arch-enemy of the Amazons, the son of Ares and the paternal half-brother of Wonder Woman. He believes humanity cannot be saved and hopes to destroy the world of man through World War I. Only Diana is the one capable of defeating him, as only gods can kill gods.
He was portrayed by David Thewlis, who also played King Einon in Dragonheart and V.M. Varga in Fargo.
