Archaeopteryx (meaning "ancient wing") is an extinct genus of paravian bird that lived in Germany during the Late Jurassic period around 150 million years ago. In May 2025, the recent studies show that Archaeopteryx can be terrestrial and arboreal life.
In King Kong, there is a bunch flying away as the Stegosaurus enters the clearing, there is more flitting around the dead tree as Kong goes to fight the sailors on the log.
In the 1940 Disney film Fantasia, Archaeopteryx was on a tree branch until a Troodon was about to pounce, causing the animal to fly off.
Archaeopteryx also made an appearance in the 2009 Blue Sky Studios film Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs where it was used as food for the Tyrannosaurus babies.
It has been featured in several episodes of Dinosaur Train.
It also appeared in David Attenborough's documentary film Natural History Museum Alive.
It appears in ARK: Survival Evolved as a docile creature.
Some also appeared in the 2019 Disney show “Gigantosaurus” with a character named Archie who acts as a friend of the 4 main characters Mazu, Rocky, Tiny & Bill.
It also appeared in the 2019 PBS documentary When Whales Walked: Journeys in Deep Time.
