Aqualad is one of the tritagonists of the Aquaman Comics and a main character in the Teen Titans franchise. He is the sidekick of Aquaman, and one of his proteges, along with Aquagirl. The first was Garth, the biological son of King Thar and his wife Queen Berrawas adopted by Arthur Curry. He later became known as the second Tempest. The second Aqualad was a young boy named Jackson Hyde. He is the son of Aquaman's rival, Black Manta and is half-Atlantean from his Atlantean motherborn in Xebel, born Kaldur'ahm.
