Animal Man (Bernhard "Buddy " Baker ) is a fictional superhero in the DC Comics Universe. After being exposed to extra-terrestrial energy, Buddy has the ability to temporarily take on the form of any animal. He is the Avatar of the Red until his daughter becomes it one day.
He was created by writer Dave Wood and artist Carmine Infantino, first appearing in Strange Adventures #180 (September 1965).
