- “Hundreds of our men have lost their lives. Yet we celebrate. You are provoking the Gods, and you act like there won't be no consequence.”
- ―Andromeda
Princess Andromeda is the deuteragonist of the Clash of the Titans franchise. She is the deuteragonist of the original 1981 film, a major character in 2010 remake and one of the two deuteragonists of the 2012 sequel (alongside Agenor). She is the daughter of King Kepheus and Queen Cassiopeia.
In the remake, Andromeda does not end up with Perseus until the second film. In the sequel, Andromeda becomes a warrior Queen who helps Perseus rescue his father Zeus from Tartarus, the deepest parts of the underworld, and defeat Kronos to save the world.
Portrayal[]
- In the original 1981 film, Jodie Bowker portrayed the character.
- In the remake franchise, she is portrayed by Alexa Davalos in the first film.
- In Wrath of the Titans, Davalos was replaced by Rosamund Pike for the 2012 sequel.
Appearances[]
Clash of the Titans (1981)[]
In the original, Andromeda is the princess of Joppa who falls in love with Perseus. However, her mother, Queen Cassiopeia, boasts thar her daughter was more beautiful than their patron goddess Thetis. Angered, Thetis sentenced Andromeda to be sacrificed to the Kraken in thirty days. This leads Perseus in a quest to find a way to defeat the Kraken before the summer solstice
Clash of the Titans (2010)[]
Andromeda is adapted as the princess of Argos. Another difference is Hades issues Andromeda's sacrifice on a solar eclipse in ten days instead of the summer solstice in thirty days.
Unlike the remake, Andromeda and Perseus do not end up together. Perseus refuses to stay and be king and tells Andromeda she will be an amazing queen. Instead, Perseus ends up with Io. However, in an alternate ending, they end up together like the original film
Wrath of the Titans[]
Relationships[]
Perseus[]
Perseus and Andromeda met each other in what Andromeda described in a dream. He freed her from Calibos' curse, and they later married after he saved her from the Kraken.
In the remake, they met in Argos, where its people celebrated their "victory" against the Gods, where she offered him a drink after seeing how exhausted he is. The princess was the first person in Argos to show Perseus kindness, and immediately asked her father to let him go, as she did not want him to die for her. Andromeda later fell in love with Perseus after he saved her life. However, he was in love with another woman, who died on the journey, and felt that he was not worthy to be a king with Andromeda and served her better as a man. Perseus then bid her farewll and told Andromeda that she was going to make a wonderful queen.
Perseus and Andromeda did not see each other for another ten years. During that time, she learned that Perseus had a son, but that his wife had passed away due to unknown circumstances. They had implied romantic attractions toward each other in Wrath of the Titans. Perseus gave Andromeda a kiss, leaving it to the imaginations of the audience members.
Perseus is her husband in the Greek Myths, and they might become spouses like the original.
