Amphitrite is the Queen of the Sea through her marriage with Poseidon, one of the fifty Nereids (daughters of Nereus), and the mother of Triton. Her Roman counterpart is Salacia.
Background[]
Percy Jackson's Greek Gods[]
Amphitrite was one of the 50 nereids of Poseidon and the daughter of Nereus and Doris. Along with her sisters, Amphitrite came to the aid of sailors in distress, fought perilous storms, and took care of the sea's rich bounty. In Percy Jackson's Greek Gods, Percy mentions that he and Amphitrite, unlike Persephone and Nico and Hera and Thalia, get along great. She is everything he could ask for an immortal stepmother because Amphitrite does not get mad at him whenever he leaves his dirty laundry on the floor whenever he visits Atlantis and makes cookies for him like Sally does.
During his father's chapter, Percy explains that Poseidon fell in love with her after the Titanomachy. After he replaced Oceanus as the god of the Seas, he allowed the Nereids to continue duties, put them in his court, and upheld their honor when they were insulted. However while Poseidon had tried to win her heart, Amphitrite showed zero interest in him for to not wanting to get married, probably wanting to even stay a virgin goddess like Hestia or Artemis.
After leaving Atlantis, Amphitrite fled and hid herself near Atlas in the ocean stream at the far ends of the world. However Poseidon fell into a state of depression, eventually sending Delphin, god of the Dolphins. After Delphin convinced her to return to Atlantis after giving her all the benefits of being Queen, Amphitrite returned to her home and married the King of the seas. With him, she and Poseidon had several children together, including Triton (who became his father's herald, and current heir), Rhode (a minor goddess who became the patron deity of an island named after her and married to Helios), Kymopoleia (goddess of violent sea storms who later married the Hekatonkheire Briares) and Benthesikyme. However, they were very wary up their daughter Kymopoleia due to her chaotic nature.
She once gifted her stepson Theseus with a purple cloak and showed no animosity to her demigod stepchildren.
