Unicorns are in the world again. No sorrow will live in me as long as that joy, save one...and I thank you for that part, too.
―The Unicorn to Schmendrick

The Unicorn (also known as Lady Amalthea) is the eponymous main protagonist of Peter S. Beagle's The Last Unicorn and Rankin and Bass's film of the same name. She is a lonely unicorn who sets out on a quest to find out what happened to the other Unicorns. Along the way, the Unicorn gains companionship in Molly Grue and Schmendrick the Magician and learns how to love and regret after her time as a human and falling in love with Prince Lir.
