- “We are broken...because of me.”
- ―Alma Madrigal
Alma Madrigal is the deuteragonist of the Disney animated film, Encanto. Embittered by her husband's death at the hands of a group of radical soldiers, Alma believes in her duty to owe magic in light of the tragedy. Focused mostly on her descendants' gifts, this leaves her in conflict with her non-magical granddaughter, Mirabel.

Trivia[]
- Alma is fairly similar to characters like Triton and Imelda. All three of them are parental figures of the main protagonist (Triton is Ariel's father, Imelda is Miguel's great-great-grandmother and Alma is Mirabel's grandmother) who suffered a terrible event or loss. (Alma's husband was killed by the conquerors, Imelda felt seemingly abandoned by Hector and Triton lost his wife to pirates.) They are the strict authority figures who have a strange relationship with their children/grandchildren and reconciles what their descendants when they realize their mistakes). Also they value family more than anything.
