Alan Keane is a supporting character in The Amazing World of Gumball series. He is an optimistic teal colored balloon who likes to make the world a better place. He attends Elmore Junior High as a student, where he achieves good grades and tries to bring the best out of his fellow peers. Alan is currently dating Carmen, a green cactus who also attends the same school.
He was voiced by Kerry Shale in Season 1, and later by Hugo Harold-Harrison from Season 2 and onwards.
Appearance[]
Alan is a slightly deflated, teal-colored rubber balloon, whose face is drawn on with black permanent marker ink.
In season 2 onwards, his design changes very little. Alan has slightly more round/oval-shaped eyes than his original design, and he appears to be colored brighter.
In the early reel, Alan had a nose and freckles, making him look more baby-like, but this was changed in the official series.
Personality[]
Alan is a benevolent, selfless, and extremely friendly individual who makes it his life mission to spread happiness across the world. He is often perceived as "perfect" by others, much to Gumball's annoyance, constantly helping other people, doing charity work, and volunteering. He is also extremely unbothered by other people even when they mistreat him. His positivity is to such a high degree that in "The Faith," when he finally loses faith to the world, the world loses its color, and an aura of despair spreads around him.
However, in "The Vision," his plans to take over the world and imprison sad people in "happy camps" showcase a darker side, but this was likely a one-time joke.
Trivia[]
- Alan can propel himself through the air without any visible assistance.
- Many people who have never seen the show before mistake Alan for a female, possibly because of his eyelashes, which are more common on female characters in animation, and also because of his high voice, which is caused by helium.
- Alan can be seen going out with Masami in the early reel. Ironically, she planned on going out with him in "The Storm."
- During the first season, Gumball seems to have trouble remembering his name, calling him Adrian, Alfred, Andrew, Arthur, Alex, etc.
- It is revealed in "The Storm" that whatever he eats gets turned into air.
- His surname is revealed in "The Vision."
- Alan Keane is also the name of a script editor on the series.
