Akela is one of the two overarching protagonists of Disney's 2016 live-action remake, The Jungle Book alongside Mowgli's father. He was the leader of the Seoni pack and a father figure of the human boy, Mowgli.
He is voiced by Giancarlo Esposito, who also voiced Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian, Genie of Agrabah/Magic Mirror/Sydney Glass from Once Upon a Time and Jorge in The Maze Runner trilogy

After Bagheera finds Mowgli with Baloo, Bagheer informs Baloo that Akela is dead and that Shere Khan killed him to lure Mowgli back to the pack. He asks Baloo to find a away for Mowgli to get leave for the man village. However, Baloo's harsh words drive Mowgli away, who is later kidnapped by King Louie's minions.
While running away from Louie, Mowgli decrees he is going back to the pack and seek protection from Akela However, Louie laughs at this and he informs Mowgli the wolf is dead. Mowgli confronted Bagheera and asked if it was true that Akela was dead. With a heavy heart, Bagheera tells Mowgli that the rumors are true.
